The Washington County Board of Supervisors passed a wind energy ordinance at their most recent meeting. The ordinance was passed unanimously by the Supervisors. Supervisor Jack Seward Jr. shared his thoughts on the ordinance and what it means for Washington County residents, “That if the people of Washington County most affected by a wind farm, see the value and benefits of it, they can waive that separation distance, and there should be no problem with the developer securing the ground for the project.” The ordinance sets the guidelines for wind energy companies on permit application requirements, set-back distances from inhabited and uninhabited structures, decommissioning of towers, and liability insurance. The ordinance will officially take effect when it has been published.
