Snow is in the forecast for portions of the KCII-listening area and with that people are reminded to drive safely in winter weather conditions. Washington County Sheriff Jared Schneider advises people to stay aware of weather forecasts and plan ahead of time, “Plan ahead. Leave earlier. A lot of times when we see accidents happening it’s somebody that’s in a hurry to get some place. Maybe it’s that commute to work in the morning, and they wake up at their normal time, and find snow on the ground, and they’re limited on the amount of time that they have to get to work and they should’ve probably planned for a little bit more time. So you know, the number one thing is plan ahead, pay attention to the weather forecast so you have plenty of time to get to where you’re going safely.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration encourages motorists to prepare their vehicles by checking the age, tread and pressure of tires; maintain windshield wipers; and regularly have your vehicle’s battery checked as vehicles require more power to start in the winter. Parents are also reminded to harness children properly in car seats and place bulky coats on top of children after they are buckled. And remember to wear your seatbelt.
