The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves held on to win a Southeast Iowa Super Conference battle with Pekin 47-45 Tuesday night in boys’ basketball. A 15-4 run sent WMU into halftime up 30-16, and they were still leading by 14 points headed into the fourth quarter.
Although Pekin finished the game on a 19-7 run to get with two, the road team survived. A victory helps Winfield-Mount Union improve to 6-2 in the Super Conference North and 6-4 overall.
The WMU girls would not have the same luck, losing to Pekin 67-36. The Wolves trailed 22-8 after a quarter of play and saw their deficit swell to 25 points at the half. The loss drops Winfield-Mount Union to 2-10, including a 1-7 record in conference play.
