The Washington City Council took the next step in the Highway 92, East Washington Street and 12th Avenue traffic signal project at their most recent meeting by awarding the construction contract. City Administrator Joe Gaa gave more information on the bid process for the project, “We were excited to have four bids, we were able to give it a little extra time over Christmas. We had a couple of contractors reach out and say I wasn’t able to get our stuff in, so we were pleased with the four bids. Now the engineer estimate on that project was $327,000. I haven’t said this in a long time, but all four bids came in underneath the engineers estimate. I don’t know if that means the bidding climate is coming back to normal. But this is usually pretty specific stuff and that was good news.” The bid was awarded unanimously to Kline Electric, Inc. based out of Des Moines, in the amount of $227,600.25 which is below the consulting engineer’s estimate for the project. It will be several months before the equipment is available for Kline Electric to install.
