Two KCII area Southeast Iowa Superconference rivals meet up in Kalona Friday when the Hillcrest Academy Ravens entertain the Highland Huskies. The Raven girls enter the night with a 5-5 overall record, 3-5 in conference, after a 67-36 loss at Lone Tree Saturday despite 19 points from Niva Helmuth. This year, the Ravens score 49 points per game and give up 48, shooting 32% from the floor, 25% from three and 47% at the line with 35 rebounds, 16 steals, 11 assists and 24 turnovers per game. Individually, Claire Withrow leads with 18 points per night, Delaney Shaw has 10 rebounds and Malia Yoder five steals and four assists.
Highland is 8-4 this year, 5-4 in the Superconference after a 38-37 win Thursday over English Valleys, where Kamryn Fink led with 15 points. This year, the Huskies score 50 points per game and give up 48 on 36% shooting, 28% from three and 49% at the line with 40 rebounds, 13 steals, 12 assists and 23 turnovers per night. Individually, Fink leads at 16 points and 14 rebounds per game. Katie Herrig has four assists and Hailey Brun four steals. Highland has won 27 of the last 29 in the series including a 60-40 win in December. The Raven’s last victory was 2019.
The Hillcrest boys are 9-1 overall, 7-1 in conference after a 69-47 win at Lone Tree Saturday, led by Bryce and Kale Bailey with 13 points each. This year, the Ravens average 66 points per game and give up 42, shooting 52% from the floor, 32% from three and 59% at the line with 26 rebounds, 18 assists, 12 steals and 12 turnovers per night. Seth Ours leads the Ravens with 15 points per night, Mason Bender has seven rebounds, and Rowan Miller six assists and three steals.
Highland is 1-8 overall, 1-7 in conference after a one point loss to English Valleys Thursday, despite 24 points from Bryce Hazelett. This year the Huskies score 47 points per game and give up 69, shooting 38% from the floor, 21% from three and 48% at the line with 27 rebounds, nine steals, six assists and 24 turnovers per game. Individually, Hazelett puts up 15 points per night, Logan McFarland has six rebounds and two assists. Hillcrest has won 30 of the last 37 in the series including 78-39 victory in December.
