Recently, Governor Kim Reynolds issued a proclamation to ease restrictions on transportation of heating and motor fuels. The proclamation is effective immediately and continues through February 6th, 2025. The proclamation suspends the regulatory provisions of Iowa Code pertaining to hours of service for crews and drivers delivering propane, diesel, natural gas, and other fuels used for residential, agricultural, and commercial heating purposes.
As a reminder to Washington residents, applications are still being accepted for the annual Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as LIHEAP. The program is federally funded with the aim to assist low-income families to meet the cost of home heating with a one-time payment. Both homeowners and renters are able to apply if they meet the federal guidelines. For example, a family of four below an annual gross income of $62,400 may apply. Applicants must be at or below 200% of the 2023 federal poverty guidelines, which are set for October 1st, 2024 through September 30, 2025. To apply, Washington County residents should contact the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) at 319-653-7275.
