A local quintet of girls wrestling teams took the mat Friday night at Highland High School for the annual girls wrestling tournament.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks had the top team finish, placing second of 21 teams with 160.5 points. Iowa City Liberty won the meet with 180. The Hawks had five athletes finish as runners-up including Austyn Sexton at 110lbs, Ashlee Farrier at 130lbs, Emmerson Moore at 135lbs, Mardie Berry at 145lbs and Ellie Callahan at 170lbs. Gabby Gingerich at 115 and Cassie Trimpe at 155 both finished third.

Lone Tree was 15th with 23.5 points. Kayleigh Rundlett was best in fifth place.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union was 17th with 21 points. Brynn Pogmore led the Wildcats in fifth.

Highland was 20th with 13.5 points as Maiya Singbeil placed fifth at 135.

WACO was 21st with 12 points as Elyssa Graber was sixth at 105lbs.

The tournament concluded early without all matches completed.
