waco-3

The WACO Warriors kept their winning streak going in girls’ basketball by defeating Pekin 55-31 last night. Already leading by five points at the end of the first quarter, WACO went on a 15-6 run to take a 30-16 lead going into halftime, and they would stay in front by double digits the rest of the way.

Sophomore Brenna Graber had a huge night on offense, scoring a team-high 20 points for the Warriors on their way to a seventh consecutive victory. Senior Ella Huisenga added 13 points as WACO improves to 8-2 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 10-3 overall.

Meanwhile, the Warrior boys fell at Pekin 52-44. WACO fell behind 18-4 after one quarter and were down 36-12 at the half. While the Warriors tried to pull off a comeback, they could not avoid their first conference defeat of the season.

The loss drops WACO to 9-3, including an 8-1 record in the Super Conference North. Both Warrior teams next play Friday at Louisa-Muscatine.
