A Moline mas was arrested after a vehicle stop for speeding and then an additional charge was placed for introducing contraband into a correctional facility. On Saturday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office conducted a vehicle stop for speed when a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Taner Nichols of Moline, Illinois was clocked going 73 in a 55 mile per hour zone on Highway 22 and Orange Avenue in rural Washington County. During the stop and after observation by the deputy, Nichols admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle. He was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail where another official located a baggy with a white powdery substance in Nichols’ wallet. According to authorities, when asked, Nichols stated that he knew it was in there. Nichols was charged with introducing contraband into a correctional facility, a class D felony; possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; speeding; and operating a non-registered vehicle. Bail was set at $5,000 and a preliminary hearing has been set January 21st.
