Both Sigourney Savage squads kept up win streaks on the basketball court by taking down HLV Friday. The Sigourney girls took control of a game that was tied at 20 at halftime by starting the third quarter on a 19-8 run and holding on from there to defeat HLV 52-42 and win their fourth straight.
Senior Josephine Moore put together a huge game in the paint for the Savages to get the win on the road, hitting 10 out of 14 shot attempts while posting game highs of 22 points and 21 rebounds.
Freshman Brynn Clarahan was also outstanding with 11 points, four rebounds, five assists and a whopping eight steals to help the Savages improve to 7-3 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 9-4 overall.
The Sigourney boys jumped out to a 17-7 lead by the end of the first period and would stay in front by double-digits entering the last quarter, but they put the game away with a 17-7 closing run to secure a 62-37 victory.
Junior John Berg led the Savages with a double-double of 18 points and 17 rebounds, while senior Isaac Bruns had 16 points and three steals. Junior Solon Yates scored 15 points and hit three three-point baskets as Sigourney wins its fifth in a row.
The Savages are now 9-4, including a 6-4 conference record. While the boys’ team is back in action tomorrow, the Sigourney girls play again this evening at Wilton.
