The Lone Tree Lion girls and WACO Warrior boys were the winners of a Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader on the basketball court Tuesday night.

WACO started the girls’ game on a 15-6 run and built a 10-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but Lone Tree closed strong with a 24-11 run down the stretch to come back and win 55-52.

Junior Finley Jacque scored a game-high 26 points for the Lions while knocking down seven three-point shots and also collecting seven steals on defense.

Senior Cate Sexton added 10 points and 12 rebounds as the Lions improve to 9-3 in the Super Conference North and 12-3 overall. Meanwhile, WACO has an impressive nine-game win streak come to an end as they drop to 11-4, including an 8-2 conference record.

The Warriors also grabbed the initial lead in the boys’ game with a 14-2 run and led 32-22 at halftime of what would become a 63-51 victory. Back-to-back wins have WACO at 11-3, including an 8-1 mark in the Super Conference North.

Despite 19 points and 3 steals from junior Emmett Burke, Lone Tree falls to 4-7 in league play and 4-9 in total. While the Lions next play Cedar Valley Christian later tonight, both WACO teams also take the court this evening against Sigourney.
