Friday was a historic day for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling team at the River Valley Conference championships at West Liberty. The Golden Hawks won their first team conference title in program history, racking up 212.5 team points, to beat second place Anamosa by 12. They crowned three individual River Valley champs, the first Golden Hawks ever to reach the top of the podium.
Austin Sexton was the winner at 110lbs, pinning her way to the title, including a fall against Audra Coss of Wilton in the final. Gabby Gingerich grabbed the championship at 115lb, scoring a pair of pins including a fall against Alyssa Lovell of Tipton in the title bout. Ashlee Farrier finished first at 130lbs winning the championship by pin over Kiley Collins of West Liberty.
Three Golden Hawks were runners-up including Mardie Berry at 145lbs, Cassie Trimpe at 155 and Ellie Callahan at 170. Destina Moyle at 105, Emmerson Moore at 135 and Layken Lee at 140 all finished third.
Mid-Prairie will next be in action at Solon for the Class 1A SuperRegional Tournament Friday.
