The Washington Demons took part in the Louisa-Muscatine Tournament as part of a weekend of local girls’ wrestling. Senior Peggy Miller led the way for Washington by finishing second place at 145 pounds, winning three times by fall to reach the championship bout but getting pinned in the finals.
Ryha Wellington also took fourth for the Demons at 140 lbs, while fellow sophomore Norah Stoutner was fifth at 125. Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union also competed at Louisa-Muscatine and was led by freshman Aubrey Valenica’s fourth-place finish at 115.
Maritza Tovar took fifth at 100 lbs for the Wildcats, as did fellow senior Josie Nelson at 135 and sophomore Rozlynn Garza at 130. Freshman Kalley Deese was sixth at 125 for Columbus/WMU, while junior Brynn Pogmore ended up seventh at 235.
Senior Reanah Utterback remained undefeated for Sigourney-Keota by winning the championship at 115 lbs at the Colfax Varsity Tournament. The reigning state champion pinned all four of her opponents to improve to 46-0. Sophomore teammate Kia Montgomery also finished third at 130, while freshman Karley Greiner was fifth for SK at 155.
