After the win, Sigourney`s Ava Fisch joined KCII Sports. “I try to be the three point specialist. I practice shooting the three most of the time. Right now most of the three aren’t falling too much, but they’re all pretty close. My coach (Kaylee Webber) tells me to keep shooting. At the half she (Kaylee Webber) was telling us good job for the most part, but there’s always things she has to critique. At the end of the first half she told us we need to make better passes, because they were getting messy and really looking for the open girls posting up down low.”
With the loss, Highland falls to 12-6 on the year and remains 8-5 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North. Highland is now 1-2 vs Sigourney. Kamryn Fink led the team in scoring with 9 points.
For the boys, Sigourney is now 11-5 on the year and remains 7-4 in the South Iowa Cedar East conference. The Savages and Huskies were neck and neck in the first quarter. Late in the first quarter, Sigourney would go on a run to take a 16-9 lead going into the second quarter. In the second, The Savages would score 11 to take a 27-16 lead at the break. In the third, Highland won their quarter, by outscoring the Savages 22-12. However, in the fourth, Sigourney would close the door on Highland pretty hard as they would score 29 in the fourth to win 77-49. Highland played pretty clean in the first three quarters, but turned the ball over nine times in the fourth. The Savages would out rebound the Huskies 25-19. Isaac Bruns and John Berg would combine for 35 points.
Isaac Bruns joined the KCII Postgame show after the win. “It’s just a consistent game. You just got to keep on scoring the ball throughout the entire game. Sometimes you do have those kinds of nights, where it’s just one quarter, where you score a lot and then you kind of shrivel out. Tonight I just keep looking for shots, scoring the ball and trying to stay consistent. Our goal is to limit the turnovers and stay clean. Sometimes if you get turnovers, it’s gonna lead to fastbreak points, which leads to momentum and the game can get out of hand. Cleaning the game up and not turning the ball over is a crucial part of our game”.
For Highland, they fall to 1-14 on the year and 1-11 in the Super Conference North. They have now lost 11 straight. They were led by senior Louis Horak, who scored 11 points and hauled in 13 boards.
On the schedule for Sigourney next is their conference rival Belle Plaine. For Highland, they travel to WACO to play the Warriors on Tuesday, which will be on the KCII3 stream for the KCII Area Game of the Week. You can catch that game live on the KCII3 stream on KCIIradio.com starting at 5:30 with the girls pregame show.
