Welcome To Riverside

Residents of Riverside have been hit with the pickleball craze, according to City Administrator Cole Smith, and now the city is putting in three courts for the sport. He says locals have been enjoying pickleball for about five years now, “It’s been a need for the community that’s sort of bubbled up. It started off as a group of women who had their weekly pickleball league. They were playing on our tennis court, which is not ideal and there wasn’t very much space for them. We then put some temporary lines painted on the tennis court and got some pickleball nets. To be able to have that service in Riverside as kind of a temporary offering until we got a more permanent solution. We have also had several donations towards the project. So this will be a more of a permanent installation of pickleball in Hall park”.

The City has set a public hearing for February 3rd, where public comments can be submitted on the proposed plans. Following that the city will seek bids for the project.

The City of Riverside is wanting to build the three pickleball courts as soon as possible and the estimated cost is over $200,000. Hear the rest of the conversation KCII News had with City Administrator Cole Smith regarding pickleball courts and more on today`s In Touch With Southeast Iowa program.
