A chili cookoff and bingo will be the highlights of a Highland event tonight. The annual Fine Arts Department Chili Cookoff is being hosted this evening starting at 5:30 p.m.. Highland Band Director, Andrew McDonald has been running the event, and he says they come for the chili and stay for the bingo.

Freewill donations are accepted and McDonald explains where the money goes, “The donations all go to the Highland Fine Arts Boosters. They support all of the fine arts programs here at Highland which include, band, choir, drama, speech, visual arts and even robotics. It goes to a big fund that we use for a bunch of smaller things within our department. The Boosters pay for the marching band uniforms. The uniforms are about $1,000 dollars. That`s just one example of where this money goes to.”

The Chili cookoff and Bingo Night will take place at the Riverside VFW Post 6414 from 5:30-8 p.m. To compete in the cookoff, just bring a crockpot of chili for the judges to try before 5 p.m.. There will also be a raffle during the event.
