The Highland Huskies swept a boys’ wrestling triangular that they hosted last night. Highland defeated the WACO Warriors 42-35 in addition to beating Wapello 48-30 and knocking off Pekin 52-6.

Junior Brock Thomann helped lead the Huskies by winning twice by fall at 126 pounds, while freshman Cash Cole won by technical fall in addition to getting a pin at 113.

Freshman Rocky Hamilton also had a pair of pins at 144, as did sophomore Gauge Richardson at 157. Highland also got pins to win from freshman Mason Lavely at 126, sophomore Tyler Pierson at 132 and senior Isaac Kleese at 285.

WACO would bounce back from the Highland loss by defeating Pekin 65-12 and edging out Wapello 42-33. Senior Louden Huisenga remained undefeated for the Warriors by winning twice by technical fall at 190 lbs, while freshman Ian Maize added a pin to a tech fall at 113.

Senior Deacon Bird won a 5-0 decision to go with a pin at 150 lbs, while sophomore Braxton Stauffer claimed a 13-1 major decision at 165 and senior Gage Samo picked up a pin at 120. Both WACO and Highland now gear up for this year’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference Championships tomorrow in Pekin.
