The Hillcrest Academy Ravens boys and girls basketball teams split a doubleheader with the HLV Warriors on Saturday in the KCII Area Game of the Week. The Raven boys defeated HLV 66-41 to go to 17-2 on the year. The Ravens and Warriors were close after the first quarter as Hillcrest led 15-11. Hillcrest led 30-20 at the half. In the third quarter, however, the Ravens started to pull away as they outscored the Warriors 17-7 in the third to take a 47-27 lead into the fourth. In the final quarter, Hillcrest scored 19 to win 66-41. The Warriors had 10 turnovers, six of those came in the second half. The Ravens had eight, with most of them coming in the second. In the rebounding department, the Ravens dominated 28-12. Seth Ours led the Ravens with 17 points. Kale Bailey scored 14 points.  

Hillcrest Academy boys head coach, Dwight Gingerich joined KCII Sports to discuss his team’s ball movement. “It just seems when we are able to do that it really helps our team. Rowan Miller was the orchestrator of that. He went out in the second quarter with foul trouble. You can kind of tell when he is not out there. He is our glue and gets the ball to the players. He helps facilitate the offense. The guys did a great job of sharing the ball and moved the ball really well. 

Hillcrest Academy has won six straight over HLV since 2012. 

On the girls side, Hillcrest Academy fell to HLV 47-43 on Senior night, snapping their five game winning streak. Hillcrest is now 10-9 overall . At the end of the first, Hillcrest led 13-9. In the second, the Warriors scored 16 points to take a 25-19 lead into half. In the third, HLV took their largest lead of the game, on top 39-28 going into the fourth. The Ravens would outscore HLV in the final quarter 15-8, but the Warriors held on for the win. Turnovers were the story as both teams combined for 44, 31 for the Ravens, a season high. The Ravens did win the rebounding battle, 34-25. Senior, Malia Yoder had 20 points. She was 12 of 16 at the free throw line. 

It was the Warriors first win over the Ravens, since 2017.

The Ravens now have one game left of the season as they take on Lone Tree on Tuesday. The next KCII Area Game of the Week will be on Tuesday, as Winfield Mt-Union takes on WACO.
