The Washington Community School District would like to reiterate school safety amid a toy gun incident at Lincoln Elementary.

In a letter to parents from Washington Superintendent Willie Stone he explains, “Recently, a student brought a toy gun to school at Lincoln, which serves as an important reminder that weapons, including items that look like weapons, such as toys, are not permitted on school grounds.

“We kindly request that you take some time to talk with your child(ren) about this policy and the potential consequences of bringing such items to school. It’s also crucial to continue encouraging your child(ren) to speak up if they see something that makes them feel unsafe. If you have weapons in your home, please ensure they are properly secured.”

The letter finishes by stating that staff will also be talking with students about the policy and that the district is committed to providing a safe learning environment.
