blue-collar-tour-2

A Blue Collar Tour was held for Winfield-Mt. Union students last week. The tour is a way for students to participate in blue collar trades. Students try jobs in a trade and if they enjoy it, they can take their talents to jobs in those fields after high school.

According to WMU Welding teacher, Trevor Kongable, it gives students an opportunity to try things out, “The Blue Collar Tour is a tour put on by the Western Welding Academy. To my knowledge it is an endeavor to get the blue collar trades promoted in the high schools and in areas where the students would do really well to get into a blue collar trade. I know they (Western Welding Academy) go through many different cities. I think they have 30 different stops that they are going to and present their Blue Collar Tour.”

This was the first year that Winfield-Mt. Union High School participated. Students were given a plethora of gear that included hats, sweatshirts and even tools. During the tour, students competed in the Tig (Tungsten Inner Gas) competition and Jaxton Jones finished second. He received an automatic welding hood.
