The Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls basketball teams hosted the Lone Tree Lions Tuesday night at Hillcrest Union to write the latest chapters in their long-standing rivalry. The girls game went the Lady Lions way 52-32. The Ravens led 8-5 after a defensively dominated first quarter, but Lone Tree used second and third quarter runs of 14-4 and 17-9 respectively, to build a 19-12 halftime lead and 36-21 lead after three to pull away for the win. The Lions won the glass by six and had 11 steals. The Ravens forced 17 Lone Tree turnovers. The Lions were led by Finley Jacque’s 22 points, Alyson Ford had 10 rebounds, and Vivian Zaruba six assists and five steals. Lone Tree climbed to 17-3 overall with the win and 13-3 in conference while Hillcrest dropped to 10-10 overall and 8-8 in the league.
The Raven boys rolled in the nightcap 77-27. Hillcrest led 20-9 after one and used a 28-7 second quarter run that spanned the full frame to go up 48-16 at the break. They enacted the running clock in the third period and closed the game on a 17-2 sprint that took the full fourth quarter. The Ravens shot a blistering 59% from the floor, hitting five threes, collecting 27 boards, an impressive 26 assists and 13 steals. Bryce Bailey and Rowan Miller each poured in 15 points to lead. Miller had seven assists and Seth Ours got to double figures with 12 points. Mason Bender and Mason Helmuth each added five boards, and Isaac Birky had four steals. Hillcrest stands at 18-2 after the win 14-2 in league play while Lone Tree drops to 6-12 on the year and 4-11 in conference.
