On Saturday both WACO and Hillcrest Academy fell in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Shooutout. WACO kicked off the Shootout first and took on Burlington Notre Dame. In the first quarter, both teams were pretty even as Burlington Notre Dame had a slight 16-13 lead in the first. In the second, Burlington Notre Dame set the tone outscoring WACO 24-9, to take a 40-22 lead. WACO was not able to recover after the second quarter. The Warriors tried to make a comeback in the third, but Burlington Notre Dame answered every attack from the Warriors. After the third, the Nikes led 48-32 going into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, WACO would win the frame 20-17, but it would not be enough as the Nikes edged out the Warriors 65-52. Both teams played pretty clean as both teams combined for 22 turnovers. Even though they won, Burlington Norte Dame had more turnovers 12-11.The rebounding battle was not close as the Nikes won it easily 30-14. Christian Stacy led the way in scoring as he dropped 18 points.
With the loss, WACO fell to 15-5 and 13-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North. The Warriors have two more games left in the season and will take on Van Buren and then will travel to Wapello on Tuesday to finish the regular season.
The Hillcrest Academy Ravens finished the shootoff taking on West Burlington. Hillcrest is leading the North, while West Burlington on the other hand is leading the South. The game started off close as West Burlington only led by three 16-13. However, in the second, Hillcrest was hit by an avalanche as the Falcons scored 22 in the second to take a 48-35 lead at half. Hillcrest was held scoreless in the final three minutes of the second quarter. In the third, West Burlington continued dominating as they dropped 32 points in the third to take a 70-34 lead going into the fourth quarter. West Burlington finished Hillcrest to win the Shoutout 76-42. West Burlington forced 17 Hillcrest turnovers, while the Ravens were only able to force 11 Falcons turnovers. In the rebounding department, West Burlington had 31, while Hillcrest had 21. Mason Watkins led West Burlington as he dropped 40 points. Leading the way for Hillcrest Academy was Bryce Bailey, who scored 11 points.
Hillcrest Academy now falls to 18-3 and 14-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North. Hillcrest has one game left in the regular season and will take on Rivermont on Tuesday for their boys senior night.
