The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves topped the Keota Eagles 61-51 last night in the first round of the Class 1A Region 7 girls’ basketball playoffs. WMU led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter, but Keota would cut the margin down to two points by halftime.

It would be a 14-5 run to start the second half that put Winfield-Mount Union in control, building their advantage to 51-39 going into the final period and holding on for their fourth win in the last five games.

The season comes to an end for Keota with a record of 11-11. The Eagles will lose three seniors from this year’s roster, including Grace Conger, Kimberly Clarahan and Ava Greiner.

Meanwhile, WMU improves to 6-16 with the victory. The Wolves now advance to the Region 7 quarterfinals Tuesday evening at top-seeded Springville.
