Temperatures aren’t expected to rise above freezing through Friday. With this winter weather, remember to take extra care for outdoor animals.
Amber Talbot, Director of PAWS and More animal shelter in Washington, reminds people that outdoor pets need a place to escape the temperatures. She suggests keeping kennels warm with long stemmed grasses or straw, and insulating the enclosures.
Talbot also recommends heated water dishes so animals always have access to water and it doesn’t freeze, “I think one of the things we see a lot of is dehydration. Those water sources are frozen, so, for most animals that access is really critical. So if you have outdoor pets or are helping to take care of any outdoor pets whether that is livestock or domestic. We really need to make sure that they have access to water, so having those heating elements in those tanks or bowls are really, really important.” If anyone is concerned for an animal, contact the shelter.
