The Washington County Sheriff’s Office served a warrant on a subject in the Washington County Jail on Tuesday.
The warrant was for 23-year-old Jarod Smith of Washington for violation of probation on the original charge of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, a class D felony. According to court documents, Smith was pulled over by the Iowa State Patrol on February 9th. It was noted that Smith was driving with a revoked license and no insurance. Smith was asked to exit the vehicle and produced from the backseat a black, plastic firearms case, he opened the container, and the officer observed three firearms magazines, two handguns and one AR-15 rifle, with the AR-15 magazine containing ammunition. At that point in time, the container was seized from Smith who became argumentative with this officer about possessing ammunition. Smith was advised that as a convicted Felon, convicted domestic abuser, and as the defendant on two active no-contact orders, he cannot possess ammunition.
Smith is currently being held in the Washington County Jail on a $10,000 bond. His preliminary hearing was set for February 20th. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
