The season is on the line for Washington Demon boys’ basketball as they start the playoffs tonight on KCII by traveling to Fort Madison for the Class 3A Substate 6 quarterfinals.

Washington has a record of 9-13 and has leaned on three guards to power their offense. Senior Logan McDole averages a team-high 12-and-a-half points and 3.5 assists per game, while junior Drew Conrad and sophomore Nic Stone combine to score 20 points per contest.

Before losses to Mount Vernon and Solon this past week, the Demons had won 4 of their previous 7 games. Head coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports that he believes his team has all the ingredients to be a winner in the postseason, they just have to remember the recipe.

“You’ve first got to look at the rebounding component,” Stark says, “and just our defense in general. That’s really the focus that we’ll have. [Fort Madison has] got size, so they’re going to get offensive rebounds, but we need to limit that to limit their second-chance points.”

Washington is facing a Southeast Conference rival in Fort Madison that they lost to twice during the regular season. Behind a strong senior core, the Bloodhounds average over 63 points a game scored and won the conference by going 8-2 in league play.

The Demons nearly downed Fort Madison when the two teams last met, a 90-87 win in double overtime for the ‘Hounds back on February 7th. You can catch Washington Demon playoff basketball this evening on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII app, starting with the Countdown to Tip-Off at 6:30.
