The public is asked to take a survey regarding bridges. The Washington County Engineer’s Office is asking the public to take a five-minute survey as the U.S. Department of Transportation will be awarding up to $250 million in Competitive Highway Bridge Program grants. The program provides funds for transportation infrastructure projects.

Washington County, along with more than 20 other counties and cities, and the Iowa Department of Transportation is applying for funding. The aim is to help rebuild 33 bridges that are in poor condition across Iowa. Locally, replacing the bridge on Orange Avenue north of G36 is one of the projects being considered.

The survey will provide information on how the public views bridges, how current structures are used, and thoughts on potential improvements including wider, safer bridges that can carry heavier loads.
