
After their best season on the court in more than a decade, the Hillcrest Academy Raven girls basketball team received recognition from the Southeast Iowa Superconference this week. Four Ravens were selected to All-Conference teams.
Senior Malia Yoder was a unanimous First-Team All-SEISC selection. She led the Ravens with 102 steals, second in conference, and 79 assists, fifth in conference. She was fourth in 1A with 175 free throw attempts and her 89 makes as the line were 10th most. Yoder’s 325 total points were sixth in the Superconference and her 114 total made shots were seventh. Her 166 rebounds were 10th in the league.
Junior Claire Withrow was a Second-Team Superconference pick. She led the league with 67 made threes, sixth most in Class 1A. Her 33% mark from deep was second best in the Superconference. She
scored a team high 343 points, fourth in the Superconference with a sixth in conference 115 total made shots. Withrow shot a Superconference best 71% at the charity stripe and her 46 made freebies were seventh most in the league. She also added 60 rebounds, 40 assists and 39 steals.
The Ravens had a pair of honorable mention choices with senior Delaney Shaw and junior Niva Helmuth. Shaw did her work on the glass this year, leading the team with 202 boards, fourth most in the Superconference. She scored 108 points with 51 steals and 34 assists. Helmuth collected 80 steals this year, fifth in the Superconference and 176 rebounds, ninth in league play. Her 38% field goal percentage was 10th in conference. Helmuth also totaled 197 points and 22 assists.
The Ravens ended the season 8-8 in conference and 11-12 overall, their most wins in a year since 2014.
