A local waterway is receiving a fish shipment from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in March. Vista Park, part of the SouthTown complex near Kalona, is on the DNR’s list for spring community trout stocking, March 21st. The process will release between 1,000 and 2,000 rainbow trout into each lake they visit this month. The DNR encourages the community to join the event, noting it’s a great place to take kids to catch their first fish. Children 15 and younger can fish for trout with a licensed adult, with a daily limit of one. The daily limit for adults is five per licensed angler. This program is paid for by the sales of the trout fee to the DNR.
Other locations being stocked this spring include Liberty Centre in North Liberty, Emma Young Park in Clinton, Discovery Park in Muscatine, Ottumwa Park, Prairie Park in Cedar Rapids, Sand Lake in Marshalltown, North Prairie Lake in Cedar Falls and Heritage Pond in Dubuque.
