The City of Wellman is set to hold a public hearing on its budget Monday night. Both revenues and expenditures are set to decrease substantially in the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Capital expenditures drop from $1.6 million to none. Other costs slightly rose or held stagnant across the board, with the largest increase being an $80,000 jump in debt service. In total, expenditures are set to decrease by $1.25 million.

Revenue decreases include: Other Financing Sources, dropping from $600,000 to $0; as well as transfers in and intergovernmental line items, both of which were $1.3 million in 2024-25 and dropped by around a million dollars for 2025-26.

Due to the revenue from outside sources decreasing by more than the city’s drop in expenditures, Wellman’s tax levy, set at an April 7 public hearing, is set to increase from $10.81 to $11.70.

The large shifts can be attributed to two projects: the $1.6 million water infrastructure project and the $600,000 loan for a bridge replacement.

The public hearing is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Wellman Municipal Building.
