Its Soil and Water Conservation Week, a week dedicated to spreading the word about the programs and people who help preserve our natural resources. The Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship’s Division of Soil Conservation is helping to recognize the efforts that land owners make as apart of their farming operation when they take steps to reduce soil erosion and water pollution.
Farmers using things like terraces and buffer strips do make an impact. And according to Chief of the Mines and Minerals Bureau and the Water Resources Bureau, Todd Coffelt, terraces and buffer strips have an immediate and long term benefit.
Soil and Conservation Week is done every year, usually in the fall, but this year’s was moved to the spring to coincide with the National Association of Conservation Districts Soil and Conservation week.
