It is a must win game tonight for the Washington Demons as they play in the Regional Final for a chance to go to state for the first time since 1997.

The No. 7 Demons will have to take a tough path to get there, and play No. 8 North Scott who were the state runner-ups in 2003.

Both teams had a bye in round one, with the Demons facing Davenport North and winning 19-7, and North Scott winning 13-1 over Maquoketa in round two.

The Demons sit in second in the entire 4A in batting average, slugging, on base percentage, doubles and hits. While they also are in third in other categories such as runs and RBI’s.

The Demons are 30-8 and hitting .407. Ashley Rausch has an ERA of 1.83 and opponents are hitting just .184 off of her.

North Scott is in the top 10 in batting average and on base percentage with a .339 average and on base percentage of an even .400.

Their pitching staff has a combined ERA of 2.18 and opponents are hitting .253 off of them.

Washington head coach Angie Shrader said one run is all it takes for the Demons to get going

“It is definitely obvious on Saturday that as soon as we get runners on base our offensive mind set changes,” Shrader said. “It just takes one run for our kids, and it is just like a flood gate it opens and our kids get more confident in each other and they want to follow along with the person in front of them.”
