A week of triple digit temperatures and no rain did little to help crops and fields struggling with moisture. According to the USDA’s Crop and Weather Report just about 90% of topsoil and subsoil in this corner of the state is short or very short on water. Almost 20 % of corn and 15% of soybeans are in poor or very poor condition. Progress has not been affected however, 70 % of corn is at or beyond tasseling stage, well ahead of last years 3%. This can be attributed to early planting.
